The mission of the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) is to achieve the highest level of scientific and technological excellence in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Its research lines focus on the newly-discovered physical and chemical properties that arise from the behavior of matter at the nanoscale. ICN2 has been awarded the Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence distinction for two consecutive periods (2014-2018 and 2018-2022). ICN2 comprises 19 Research Groups, 7 Technical Development and Support Units and Facilities, and 2 Research Platforms, covering different areas of nanoscience and nanotechnology.

Job Title: Senior Researcher

Research area or group: NanoBiosensors and Bioanalytical Applications

Description of Group/Project:

NanoB2A group focuses on the development of novel nanobiosensor devices based on plasmonics, nanoplasmonics and silicon-based photonics principles, including surface biofunctionalization, microfluidics for automatic fluid delivery and complete lab-on-a-chip integration for point-of-care devices. The application of the nanobiosensor devices in real clinical diagnostics and environmental control is one of the Group's main objectives.

Main Tasks and responsibilities:

Management and supervision of  the Projects of the group.  This includes the supervision and coordination of the research tasks related to biosensing assays development with the photonic biosensor platform . Writting of periodical reports. Implementation of new strategies of biofunctionalization to improve biosensor performance for the projects goal.  Full characterization of the biosensing tool for the proposed goal.  Optimization of analysis conditions of real sample from patients. Validation of the develoment assays.

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Competences required:

· Education

  • PhD in Chemistry or similar with strong knowledge in biochemistry, immunochemistry, nanotechnology and optical biosensing

· Professional Experience and knowledge:

  • Experience in the supervision and coordination of research tasks and management of collaborative projects (EU and national calls).
  • Strong background in optical biosensors (plasmonic and photonic label free biosensors)
  • Experience in the development of immunoassays and related immunochemical methods. EXperience in the biofunctionalization of inorganic surfaces.
  • Experience in the development of bioapplications in the clinical field (i.e. diagnostics of infectious diseases or other relevant clinical conditions).
  • Experience in the field of nanotechnology and nanomedicine applied to bioanalysis.
  • Experience in DNA/RNA detection..
  • Excellent level of English (Fluent in writing and speaking) is required.
  • More than 5 years of experience in research laboratory

Summary of conditions:

  • Full time work (37,5h/week)
  • Contract Length: Permanent
  • Salary will depend on qualifications and demonstrated experience.
