The mission of the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) is to achieve the highest level of scientific and technological excellence in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Its research lines focus on the newly-discovered physical and chemical properties that arise from the behavior of matter at the nanoscale. ICN2 has been awarded with the Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence distinction for two consecutive periods (2014-2018 and 2018-2022). ICN2 comprises 19 Research Groups, 7 Technical Development and Support Units and Facilities, and 2 Research Platforms, covering different areas of nanoscience and nanotechnology.

Job Title: Research Assistant

Research area or group: Theoretical and Computational Nanoscience Group

Description of Group/Project:

The group of S.Roche is strongly engaged in forefront research on the exploration of quantum transport phenomena in graphene, organic crystals and topological insulators, investigating complex effects of chemical and structural disorders, as well as electron-phonon coupling and spin-orbit interaction on quantum interferences, localization phenomena and decoherence mechanisms, in these novel materials of considerable scientific and technology interests

Main Tasks and responsibilities:

The applicant will perform classical molecular dynamics to study the structure, stability and thermal transport in disordered forms of two-dimensional materials, which present an interest for microelectronics.  Using in-house simulation codes and codes such as LAMMPS to generate the large-scale samples of amorphous materials, following different synthesis protocols, and simulate their response upon heating and cooling protocols, and compute their mechanical properties.

Requirements:

  • Education:

Master degree in Engineering or Physics

  • Knowledge and Professional Experience:

Demonstrated experience in classical molecular dynamics and studying thermal transport in two-dimensional materials such as graphene or transition metal dichalcogenides.

Fluent in English.

Summary of conditions:

  • Full time work (37,5h/week)
  • Contract Length: Temporary (1 year)
  • Location: Bellaterra (Barcelona)
  • Salary will depend on qualifications and demonstrated experience.
