The mission of the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) is to achieve the highest level of scientific and technological excellence in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Its research lines focus on the newly-discovered physical and chemical properties that arise from the behavior of matter at the nanoscale. ICN2 has been awarded with the Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence distinction for two consecutive periods (2014-2018 and 2018-2022). ICN2 comprises 18 Research Groups, 7 Technical Development and Support Units and Facilities, and 2 Research Platforms, covering different areas of nanoscience and nanotechnology.
Job Title: Head of Strategy Development
Description of Group/Project:
The mission is to anticipate and provide a response to the challenges, risks and opportunities faced by the institute on the short and long term, including traditional and non-traditional research funding, staffing and infrastructure, and to do so with a national, European and global perspective.
To lead the definition and implementation of the institute's Strategic Plan and projects, following the guidelines defined by ICN2 Direction and in liaison with it.
To support and advise ICN2 Direction and key internal stakeholders on upcoming challenges and opportunities.
Main Tasks and responsibilities:
Lead the Strategy Development Office, currently made up of three members working in areas internally defined as Strategy and Research Development (see below). As part of this you will be responsible for establishing team members' annual objectives.
Definition, implementation and monitoring of the ICN2 Strategic Plan, as well as of strategic institutional projects and priorities as defined by Direction and in liaison with it.
· Leads project definition and management of key institutional projects
· Cultivates a collaboration network with public and private institutions (research centres, universities, funding agencies, companies and associations)
· Defines and implements strategic actions to increase ICN2's success in attracting research funding, including proposal reviews
Academic background in science, technology, and/or business is preferred.
Ability to communicate in English, Spanish and Catalan. Other languages valued.
Familiar with EU funding and procedures. Other programmes valued.
Familiar with governmental administrative procedures
· Professional experience:
Experience in team management.
In-depth knowledge of government projects, including their tender and management.
Prior experience working in a research centre (or S&T office).
Skilled in navigating the private-public interface.
Strong local and international network of contacts and collaborators.
Experience in living and working in different environments with varied nationalities is preferred.
